Mike started programming on a PDP-8 using a teletype terminal. As the personal computer revolution got going he sold his car and rode a bike for several months to raise cash to buy an Apple II computer. A slow learner, he graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1977 with a degree in Physics, earned an M.S. in Physics from the University of Denver, and was Working on a Ph.D. when he started making more money from his sideline software company than from the Air Force.Since then Mike has developed numerous compilers and interpreters, software for mission-critical physics packages for military satellites, plasma physics simulations for Z-pinch experiments, multimedia authoring tools for grade schoolers, disease surveillance programs credited with saving lives of hurricane Katrina refugees, advanced military simulations that protect our nation's most critical assets, and technical computing software for iOS.Mike currently works as a scientific software developer. Great book, just what I needed as I gear up for the flying season and get L1 and L2 certified. Fantastic pictures and easy to understand. Makes graduating from Estes to high power an easy transition.

It is written in an easy to understand tone using the simplest of terms. Very straightforward with no wasted time on lengthy non-sense that isn't necessary to know. If you are someone that has never really been exposed to high power rocketry, this is definitely the book you want to start with. It includes parts lists and instructions for Levels 1, 2, and 3 certifications. Maybe you want to build his rocket design, maybe you don't, however the basic set of knowledge and skills taught by the writer is going to be essential as you move forward into this great hobby.

I’m certified NAR Level 2 and I wish this book was written before I did my certs. It would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.I have High Power Rocketry 2 – the previous go-to for the topic – and found it to be more confusing than helpful, erratic in the order of chapters, and extremely out-dated.Make: High Power Rocketry was refreshing to see come out. I heard the interview the author did on The Rocketry Show and that convinced me to check out the book even though I already have my L2 and have no immediate plans for going for Level 3.I was glad I did. I read the book from the beginning and it was a good refresher of some things I knew, demonstrated some techniques I was not familiar with, and reinforced the practices I am already employing.There were two small things I was not able to find a satisfactory answer to in the book.The first is the tubular Kevlar the author uses as a shock cord protector. He mentions it in one chapter and then shows the technique in another, but never gives a source for the material or the type he used.The other is he references a lower-class FAA waiver as being required for all composite motors. This was the first I heard of this kind of waiver and he refers you to a later chapter for more information but I couldn’t find it. My best guess if that you’re in a certain class of airspace you have to notify the tower?Overall, I recommend this for anyone who is interested in HPR whether they have any certification or not. And if you happen to get this before you go for your cert, Mike is going to save you a lot of time and frustration.

For any student that is good at reading/reading comprehension, this book would be a good choice for them to review with. I might not recommend it for struggling readers, since it is not the most simplistic of review books.

I recommend this book for students preparing for the Biology Regents, or for final exams. Testing yourself is one of the best ways to learn material. This book includes a detailed synopsis of each subject covered in high school biology, followed by practice questions which have explained answers. I'm not going to bother reviewing the content itself. It's the Bible, after all. As far as the translation is concerned, it is the New American Bible - the complete Catholic Bible, in an approved Catholic translation. So the target audience is, of course, Catholics.With something this big, you have to have a good way to navigate, and this ebook delivers. If you know the correct abbreviations, which are pretty intuitive, it's as easy as typing mt 1 5 in the search bar, selecting "Index Items" and clicking on the first result, and you'll go straight to Matthew, Chapter 1, Verse 5. Click a superscript letter and you'll jump to a list of cross-references to other Bible verses. Click an asterisk and you'll go to the notes associated with a verse or word. Then just hit the back button to go back to where you were.

The content of the Bible in this Kindle version is just what you would expect it to be. Navigating to the book, chapter, and verse of interest is far from ideal. I bought this Kindle book back in 2012 when I had a Kindle reader with the keyboard. The directions on how to search for content in the book using the Kindle keyboard worked as described. It was not ideal in that you had to remember the abbreviation for the book and Alt key presses to enter the numbers of the chapter and the verse, but it worked.Recently this Kindle with the keyboard died and I replaced it with a current Kindle Paperwhite which does not have the physical keyboard but has the on screen keyboard. Although there are directions in the book on how to do the searching using a Kindle Touch, these directions have not worked for me with the Paperwhite. What has worked is to navigate to the Table of Contents and bookmark(highlight) that page. I can use this bookmark to quickly bring up the Table of Contents. A few screen swipes brings me to the book of interest. Click on the book title to bring up the chapters. Click on the chapter number to bring it up, and then with a few screen swipes to bring up the verse of interest.Consideration should be given to updating the navigation system designed into this book to work better with today's readers. With an improved navigation system, I would give this book 5 stars.

Bible: New American Bible, Revised Edition 2011 I am very happy with this Bible. At first I was concerned that the notes and commentaries would make it hard to read (another version I tried had the notes inserted in the text itself which was confusing and inconvenient). However, it is not the case with this one. This Bible looks like the regular text, yet all the additional material is easily and conveniently accessible through hyperlinks. Following the publisher's directions, I've learned to find any verse in the matter of seconds, which is very useful. Overall, this is an excellent buy.

I'm not going to comment on the content. Either you want to read it, or you don't. I see no reason to quibble with the translators' biases or take issue with the social positions of the Roman Catholic Church.What I appreciate about this bible is that the translation methodology is described. Each section of the bible and each book has an introduction describing the historical place of the book, whether it's considered historically accurate or an allegory, and how the book was modified over time before becoming part of the canon. Some of the language seems a little too informal to me, but I'm willing to overlook that because I really appreciate the commentary and notes.It's fairly easy to navigate on the Kindle. I almost gave it five stars, but the navigation is not perfect.

It's the New American Bible, so the translation is fine. I've knocked off two stars for the usability. It seems like it was designed for an earlier form of the Kindle, so it doesn't navigate as nicely as other books that I have. That said, I really enjoy having this translation on my Kindle, especially when I'm travelling.First, I can't search for a specific verse (e.g. Jn 10:10). The book has instructions for how to do it, but they don't work.Second, access to the endnotes is sub-par. First, they jump you all the way to the back of the book, rather than just appearing in page. Then, the return function brings you back with that verse at the top of the Kindle, rather than on the previous screen. If I get my Kindle set up nicely for Bible study with the whole section on the screen, clicking any of these notes messes it up.

I like it. I started with the Gospel according to St. John because it was Easter time when I downloaded it and I wanted to compare the differences between John's story and the other gospels. The sermon on Sunday recently had a mention about the contrast between the "writers" and it was fascinating. Go, Father Stan! But I digress. Back to the book: I like the way there are footnotes and if you click on a little number by a sentence, then you go to the footnote, and then can go back and continue reading. It took me a while to figure out how to get back, since it did not occur to me to just hit the back button on the Kindle Fire (1st generation), so I got lost a few times by going from footnote to footnote. And you have to be careful while you are reading. You touch the page on the right side to page forward to the next page (that is usual in the Kindle Fire) and if you are not careful and there is a footnote number where you touch, then it can catapult you into a footnote page. I also wanted to read the story of Joseph the Dreamer, since I had just watched the Technicolor Dreamcoat by Andrew Lloyd Webber but I could not find it in the Old Testament - I am a new testament woman. So I went back to the Acts, and lo and behold! (hah! Angel humor!) There was a reference to Joseph. I am still reading that one, right before Stephen is martyred. Maybe a footnote will lead me to the dreamer's page. After I give due attention to Stephen, of course. Can't disrespect a martyr. It's a good book, no pun intended. I intend to keep reading, but I am not sure I will wade through the O.T. After I finish the N.T. then I will perhaps bounce around via footnotes and references. Cool!

In this brave account, Antonio Veciana discloses how the secret government of the US really operates. His confession supports Jim Garrison's conclusions that Lee Harvey Oswald was indeed a member of the intelligence community and that there was a plot to kill Kennedy that was planned by members of that community. Veciana met Oswald at a meeting with his own CIA handler, a man he knew as Maurice Bishop, in a Dallas bank in September of 1963, a few weeks before the assassination. In this book, Veciana positively identifies "Bishop" as David Atlee Phillips, the CIA's chief of operations for the Western Hemisphere, who recruited Veciana to organize the terrorist group, Alpha 66, to kill Castro. Once someone gets pulled into that sinister cloak and dagger world they sort of sell their souls. I'm not sure Antonio Veciana was ever truly willing to make that bargain. And causing problems for the CIA is not a very healthy thing to do.Although ironically it wasn't the CIA who turned on Mr. Veciana violently but rather members of Fidel Castro's Cuban intelligence services. The poor guy had the intelligence agencies from at least two different countries mad at him. All the CIA did to him was have him arrested on false drug trafficking charges and sent to prison for awhile.Mr. Veciana is an important witness for the JFK case because he actually saw David Phillips and Lee Oswald together in Dallas. Lee Oswald was strangely silent during this short encounter. At some point Oswald realized he had ended up on the wrong side of the intelligence apparatus. He probably realized it during his suspicious trip to Mexico City. This trip had a hidden agenda that Oswald was not aware of at first.This book doesn't delve into the John Kennedy assassination and Oswald's possible role in the assassination in detail. It's interesting that Mr. Veciana says he's not even sure if Lee Oswald did shoot John Kennedy. That surprised me because it should be obvious that Oswald was innocent and not directly involved in the assassination.This book gives an indication of how much David Phillips and the CIA resented President Kennedy. Kennedy was doing things which were counter to the Agency's agenda.The great Fletcher Prouty wrote that the CIA intentionally caused the ill fated and ironically named Bay Of Pigs U.S. invasion of Cuba to fail. Their plan was to cause President Kennedy to panic and escalate the entire situation by authorizing an overt military response. But John Kennedy who had just recently become the president didn't do what they wanted. The Agency realized then that JFK was going to resist their evil schemes in Vietnam and many other places.Somewhere during all of this David Phillips and his pals almost managed to start World War III during the Cuban Missile Crisis and put us back into the Stone Age. This was an interesting read that came across to me like a fictional spy thriller. The subtitle of the book is "The Inside Story of CIA Plots Against Castro, Kennedy, and Che." It is not. I was expecting the divulgence of the inner workings of the CIA along with how high up the ladder the commands were given. What I got was basically an autobiography of Veciana, the dealings he had with his CIA handler, and all of their failed attempts to assassinate Castro. There is basically zero information connecting the CIA to the Kennedy assassination other than a chance meeting between the author and Lee Harvey Oswald.
