"A tale with all the twists, turns and action sequences of a ‘Bourne’ film.” New York Post"Trained to Kill is not another tinfoil hat Kennedy-conspiracy bookdeclassified CIA cables confirm Veciana’s working relationship with the agency and even his code name, AMSHALE-1. The book is a soldier’s story about what he saw on the front lines of the Cuban-American struggle for power." Newsweek"Astonishing." Daily MailTrained to Kill is one of those essential books that our free press’ is all too likely to ignore, because of all the awful truth between its coversespecially its shattering confirmation that David Attlee Phillips of the CIA did introduce the author to Lee Harvey Oswald just weeks before the assassination of John Kennedy. While thus exploding the old myth of Oswald as lone gunman,’ this chilling memoir also sheds new light on Che Guevara’s murder, Operation Condor, and the fanatic amorality behind the management of US covert operations.” Mark Crispin Miller, professor of media, culture, and communication at New York University and author of Fooled Again: The Real Case for Electoral ReformAntonio Veciana’s Trained to Kill is one of the most important historical documents to have emerged in the U.S. in the past decade. This inside story of the CIA plots to kill Fidel Castro, President John F. Kennedy and Che Guevara not only makes for riveting reading, it also shines a stark light on the darkest corners of U.S. covert operations in the 1960s and ’70s. In one of the most dramatic episodes in a book filled with them, Veciana confirms that his CIA handlera smooth and ruthless rising star at the agency named David Atlee Phillipswas also running Lee Harvey Oswald. This is a real history of American power, one that is destined to disturb and enlighten any citizen who can handle the truth.” David Talbot, founder of Salon and New York Times bestselling author of The Devil’s Chessboard: Allen Dulles, the CIA, and the Rise of America’s Secret Government"Antonio Veciana is a witness to history who cannot be ignored. Laconic and lucid, this crafty accountant tells the story of his deadly operations against Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. He details the intimate dealings he had with top CIA officers. And his story culminates in a perilous series of events that exposed a dangerous truth and changed Veciana’s way of thinking: his suave CIA handler, David Phillips, had played a role in the ambush of President Kennedy in Dallas. In telling his story with candor and humility, Veciana demonstrates the courage of a now-peaceful warrior.”Jefferson Morley, author of The Ghost: The Secret Life of CIA Spymaster James Jesus Angleton"At long last, the primary leader of the CIA-backed, anti-Castro group of Cuban exiles has come forward to shatter the Warren Commission's finding that the assassination of President Kennedy was the work of a 'lone nut.' Antonio Veciana's story should revise the history books." Dick Russell, New York Times bestselling author of The Man Who Knew Too Much"From Havana to Santiago to New York, Antonio Veciana plotted to kill Castro. This book describes those plots and his other attempts to reverse Cuba’s Marxist revolution. His was a true terrorist campaign before the phrase became a commonplace of journalism. But Veciana planned his acts of murder and mayhem as an agent of the American government, more specifically the CIA. This well-written, candid, and exciting book describes his Agency career and provides a memorable portrait of his recruiter and manager. The legendary David Phillipsthe man who likely had a role in the conspiracy to kill JFKcomes alive and inhabits these pages as he does in no other book you will read." James DiEugenio, author of Reclaiming ParklandAs was once said about him and the words in these pages confirm, Antonio Veciana is one of history’s most important individuals. Whether as the CIA’s point man in Havana in post-revolutionary Cuba, the mastermind behind the legendary anti-Castro exile group Alpha 66, or the unwitting witness to Lee Harvey Oswald’s meeting with his CIA handler at an office building in Dallas days before the JFK assassination, Mr. Veciana’s unflinching and courageous confessional memoir definitively answers so many of the baffling questions raised by CIA’s operations in the twentieth centuryand his answers both illuminate and disturb.” Fernand R. Amandi, Bendixen & Amandi International“Antonio Veciana had a compelling mission in life, to help free his countrymen from a ruthless dictator. His long, painful path towards freedom intersected with my husband’s passion to help solve the mystery of the death of President Kennedy. Veciana’s startling revelation that he saw his CIA mentor, Maurice Bishop, with Lee Harvey Oswald, led my husband on his own mission to identify Bishop.” —Marie Fonzi

Another fascinating read. At long last, the primary leader of a CIA-backed, anti-Castro group of Cuban exiles has come forward to shatter the Warren Commission's finding that the assassination of Prez Kennedy was the work of a "lone nut." Antonio Veciana's story should revise the history books. It's also one of the most important historical documents to have emerged in the US in the past decade. This inside story of the CIA plots to kill Fidel Castro, President John F Kennedy and Che Guevara not only makes for riveting reading, it also shines a stark light on the darkest corners of US covert operations in the 1960s and '70s...This is a real history of American power, one that is destined to disturb and enlighten any citizen who can handle the truth. Five stars!
In this brave account, Antonio Veciana discloses how the secret government of the US really operates. His confession supports Jim Garrison's conclusions that Lee Harvey Oswald was indeed a member of the intelligence community and that there was a plot to kill Kennedy that was planned by members of that community. Veciana met Oswald at a meeting with his own CIA handler, a man he knew as Maurice Bishop, in a Dallas bank in September of 1963, a few weeks before the assassination. In this book, Veciana positively identifies "Bishop" as David Atlee Phillips, the CIA's chief of operations for the Western Hemisphere, who recruited Veciana to organize the terrorist group, Alpha 66, to kill Castro. This is a devastating story of how the CIA trains its operatives to lie, cheat, steal and kill, and to put the loyalty to the Company above their families, their religion and moral values to commit acts of sabotage and violence. At the end of the book, Veciana registers some regret at neglecting his family. "Now I am old. My wife is gone. My children are grown. I have survived cancer and a heart attack. Now I can reveal the truth about my double life." This account should revise our history books that wrongly claim our President was killed by a "lone nut" and prompt the government and the MSM to tell the truth at last.Other books on Amazon to consult about the the coup of 1963: Jim Garrison's ON THE TRAIL OF THE ASSASSINS; James Douglass' masterpiece JFK AND THE UNSPEAKABLE; DESTINY BETRAYED by Jim DiEugenio; BREACH OF TRUST by Gerald McKnight; and for further information on Veciana, Gaeton Fonzi's THE LAST INVESTIGATION. Other important authors who have written about the Deep State include David Talbot, John Newman and Peter Dale Scott. We are entitled to know our history and 54 years is too long to wait for the truth from our government officials and journalists who have been part of the cover-up since November 22, 1963. The JFK Records Act of 1992 requires that all assassination-related materials still held secret in the National Archives, calculated to be thousands of pages, be released by October, 2017. Only our current chief executive can veto the release and further obscure the the truth.
This short but explosive book is highly recommended for students of the John Kennedy assassination mystery.Cuba and Fidel Castro come up a lot in relation to the JFK assassination. This book helps clarify why that is the case. The book provides rare and fascinating glimpses into a dark and sinister underworld of spies, assassinations, and dirty tricks that most of us will never experience (nor would we want to). One of Mr. Veciana's main points is that, even though most of us will never experience that murky, shadowy world we are still affected by it in profound ways.David Atlee Phillips (alias Maurice Bishop) is one of the more well known Judases in the JFK case. Phillips was a CIA asset and he was apparently part of the group that engineered President Kennedy's assassination and the takeover of the United States by a shadow government. Antonio Veciana first crossed paths with Phillips in Cuba after Fidel Castro came into power. Phillips somehow realized that Veciana could be recruited into the CIA's circle of terrorists and trained killers. The book is fascinating as it tells how Phillips introduced Veciana to the CIA's dark arts of espionage, sabotage, propaganda, and murder. As a result Mr. Veciana became obsessed with assassinating Fidel Castro.Phillips realized right from the beginning that Mr. Veciana might cause problems for the CIA in the future. Once someone gets pulled into that sinister cloak and dagger world they sort of sell their souls. I'm not sure Antonio Veciana was ever truly willing to make that bargain. And causing problems for the CIA is not a very healthy thing to do.Although ironically it wasn't the CIA who turned on Mr. Veciana violently but rather members of Fidel Castro's Cuban intelligence services. The poor guy had the intelligence agencies from at least two different countries mad at him. All the CIA did to him was have him arrested on false drug trafficking charges and sent to prison for awhile.Mr. Veciana is an important witness for the JFK case because he actually saw David Phillips and Lee Oswald together in Dallas. Lee Oswald was strangely silent during this short encounter. At some point Oswald realized he had ended up on the wrong side of the intelligence apparatus. He probably realized it during his suspicious trip to Mexico City. This trip had a hidden agenda that Oswald was not aware of at first. This book doesn't delve into the John Kennedy assassination and Oswald's possible role in the assassination in detail. It's interesting that Mr. Veciana says he's not even sure if Lee Oswald did shoot John Kennedy. That surprised me because it should be obvious that Oswald was innocent and not directly involved in the assassination. This book gives an indication of how much David Phillips and the CIA resented President Kennedy. Kennedy was doing things which were counter to the Agency's agenda. The great Fletcher Prouty wrote that the CIA intentionally caused the ill fated and ironically named Bay Of Pigs U.S. invasion of Cuba to fail. Their plan was to cause President Kennedy to panic and escalate the entire situation by authorizing an overt military response. But John Kennedy who had just recently become the president didn't do what they wanted. The Agency realized then that JFK was going to resist their evil schemes in Vietnam and many other places.Somewhere during all of this David Phillips and his pals almost managed to start World War III during the Cuban Missile Crisis and put us back into the Stone Age. All of their scheming and James Bond tricks almost destroyed us all and maybe they still will yet.JFK: The CIA, Vietnam, and the Plot to Assassinate John F. This was an interesting read that came across to me like a fictional spy thriller. The subtitle of the book is "The Inside Story of CIA Plots Against Castro, Kennedy, and Che." It is not. I was expecting the divulgence of the inner workings of the CIA along with how high up the ladder the commands were given. What I got was basically an autobiography of Veciana, the dealings he had with his CIA handler, and all of their failed attempts to assassinate Castro. There is basically zero information connecting the CIA to the Kennedy assassination other than a chance meeting between the author and Lee Harvey Oswald.
