The quality is very good! Thanks you so much!

I like the accessibility of Danto's book. Without losing his reader, Danto explains the art movements before and after Warhol, giving the reader the ability to focus on how Warhol became the icon he is today. The reader is not left behind in highbrow art definitions or in-depth analysis. You begin to think about what is art and how that definition changes as the culture changes. You can focus on the Marilyn paintings, the Brillo Boxes or the Campbell Soup Cans and begin to understand how Warhol changed how we understand what is art. The book even made me think about what Warhol might have done with the Internet. Danto's basic premise is refuted by Louis Menand in the Jan 11 2010 issue of The New Yorker. Why is a Brillo box created in a factory and displayed in a supermarket not art, while a Brillo box created in an atelier and displayed in a gallery is art? The clear inference, made express elsewhere in Danto's writings, is that intentionality is somehow essential to art. Danto asserts that this was one of Warhol's breakthroughs, and unconvincingly dismisses DuChamp's ready-mades as not really making the point.The fact of the matter is that this is old ground for Danto, having been expressed more clearly and with greater detail in earlier works. I suppose that for generations that never heard of Warhol and that may be interested into a quick peek into his life and work, without too much effort (the essay is less than 150 pages of easily-grasped language and generously-sized type) the volume may be of interest. The few illustrations in the book are in black and white and of rather poor quality, but perhaps that is all that is necessary to illustrate Warhol's work. Perhaps his work is better to read about then to actually see.Those who have believed that Danto was an important guide through the philosophy of art may begin to wonder if the guide will return to providing new insights.

This was interesting book to read from the perspective of a philosopher of aesthetics, rather than just a straight forward biography of facts about the artist. This is a very intelligently written and thought provoking book. I have read many books about Andy Warhol and this was definitely one of the best!

About the Author

Barry Chess has been teaching microbiology at Pasadena City College for over 15 years. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from California State University, Los Angeles, and did several years of postgraduate work at the University of California, Irvine, where his research focused on the expression of eukaryotic genes involved in the development of muscle and bone. At Pasadena City College, Barry developed a new course in human genetics and helped to institute a biotechnology program. He regularly teaches courses in microbiology, general biology, and genetics, and works with students completing independent research projects in biology and microbiology. Over the past several years, Barry’s interests have begun to focus on innovative methods of teaching that lead to greater student understanding. He has written cases for the National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science and presented talks at national meetings on the use of case studies in the classroom. In 2009, his laboratory manual, Laboratory Applications in Microbiology: A Case Study Approach, was published. He is thrilled and feels very fortunate to be collaborating with Kathy Talaro, with whom he has worked in the classroom for more than a decade, on this ninth edition. Barry is a member of the American Society for Microbiology and regularly attends meetings in his fields of interest, both to keep current of changes in the discipline and to exchange teaching and learning strategies with others in the field.

This book was required for a college class - beware: THE CONNECT ACCESS CARD DOES NOT COME WITH THE BOOK!! (EVEN IF YOU BUY IT NEW!!) Learn from my mistake - and order the card separate :) Although an Amazon rep told me it would come if I bought the new book, it did not - however, the rep that helped me today totally rocked!! She verified I would indeed need to purchase the card separately and helped me to expedite the shipping so I would have it for class this week.

the book was wrapped in shrink-wrap. interestingly enough, there were some pages with damage, but not enough to return the book and then fall behind on the material for my class, daily quizzes and all. this international version had the same info as the u.s. version. the one thing the professor mentioned was that the authors had provided some misinformation for some of the later sections in the book. so she created her own material for the class to remedy that. other than that, the book did the job for my microbiology class.

I had to buy this book for my microbiology class. Normally, I sell my textbooks after reading them, but I had to keep this one. The author made microbiology enjoyable and easy to understand. I definitely recommend this book if you want to know more about microbiology.

Did not come with the connect plus access cars as advertised. Hopefully, my prof accepts that, if not this is going back.

It's a required textbook, so it is not exactly a page-turning experience, but it does give good information for the class I am taking.

Exactly what I needed and inexpensive! There is a newer version so make sure it's the version your professor wants

Worked fine for the class , was in decent shape, explained most of the stuff I needed it to. Just check with your teacher first to make sure they are ok with using an older addition. I spent $7 instead of $200+ so I'm quite happy and making an "A" so far. Just watch out for cellular respiration. It's confusing, but don't know if the newer additions are any better, probably just a tough subject.

The outside cover of the book is a bit worn and frayed, but nothing terrible. It was definitely acceptable under the term 'used'. The content... well it's microbiology. If you like the topic, this book is very informative.If you don't, well, it's a textbook.The seller was reliable and thanks to amazon I received my book quickly and in good packaging.

Great ideas, innovative. The only problem so far is the exercises are not ordered correctly, more complex grooves come before simpler ones. I worked with the simpler pieces first, then, went back and learned the difficult exercises. You must know how to read drum music before you use this book, and have some good independence.

I played drums in high school; played in some jazz bands as I got older and began too raise a family I put playing on the back burner. At 55 I got the fever again began to think wouldn't playing drums be a great way to exercise while doing something I enjoyed doing. This is when I discovered Mike Clark. I love the exercises he presents in this book and it's right in line with what I'm trying to accomplish musically. And Mike does not muscle the drums he plays them with great taste like Harvey Mason or Steve Gadd two master drummers with whom I pattern my style. This book is a great treasure.Thank you Mike Clark, Master Drummer

It's full of practical examples, that you can actually use in a musical situation.If you take the time to work through all of these exercises, you will be surprised at just how funky you can sound! I personally found this book is the real deal.

I have the greatest respect for Mike's playing and his contributions to the music. In this book he clearly lays out alot of material that had mystified me. Very glad I bought this book and I recommend it to all drummers who want to expand their funky abilities.

I followed Aaron Hernandez’s trial with great interest and can say with confidence that I have read and watched *everything* publicly available on the case. From trial transcripts to news articles to Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez’s appearance on Dr. Phil to the special on Oxygen to even that horrid James Patterson novel that I tore apart in a review here on Amazon—I have consumed everything I can find. I read the book against that backdrop of information and concluded:1. This book is by far the best resource on the Hernandez case.Hernandez was so secretive and, amazingly enough, the family and friends who were closest to him (so, not his brother and mother) have remained mostly mum. As a result, there has not been any illumination of his thoughts and decisions and reasons. Unless Baez is wholesale fabricating most of the book (doubtful since he has Hernandez-Jenkins’s approval), he got very close to Aaron and became one of his few confidants. As a result, this book really sheds light on Hernandez in a way never seen before.2. This book answers controversial questions.From Hernandez’s sexuality to the full text of his suicide notes to the lifestyles of the Cape Verdeans he was accused of murdering, Baez touches on topics that were hitherto unaddressed or for which confusing accounts exist. Virtually any question that has been on answered until now is addressed in this book. Having had my time wasted by James Patterson’s account, I really appreciated that Baez made this read worthwhile.3. The book is respectful both to Hernandez and to the victims.Whenever I read that an attorney is going to write a tell-all book on his client, my instinctive reaction is disgust. I think I am in the majority on that. Baez took what could have been a very sleazy exercise and makes it feel almost like the kind of book Hernandez himself might have written had he been able to tell his own story. Baez is true to his loyalty to his client and his love of Hernandez humanizes Hernandez in a way I did not think possible. Out of nowhere, I found my heart breaking not only for the victims, but also for the loss of a young, talented man who fought his way up from poverty with sheer force of will and talent only to fall so far short of what he should have been. I did not expect to sympathize with Hernandez. I also found myself believing that the acquittal in the second trial was the right verdict. I did not expect that. At the same time, Baez is fair to the victims. Such balance is not easy to achieve.4. This is book gives insight into Baez and is an excellent primer in how to try a criminal case.I picked up this book as much to learn about Jose Baez as to deepen my understanding of Aaron Hernandez. As a fellow litigator, I have long been intrigued by Baez. Despite media depictions of him as what happens when a bumbling, oafish cretin is crossed with a money-grubbing ambulance-chaser who will defend anyone for a buck, the man keeps winning. And he’s winning really tough cases. Lay people think this is because he is lucky or because juries are stupid, but as a trial attorney, I know it takes considerable skill to prevail against the odds his clients face.This book told me why Baez keeps winning. He is a phenomenal attorney. Plain and simple. Anyone with an interest in the law MUST read this book. Baez really understands investigations, trial strategy, and advocacy, and he conveys the information in a very easy-to-read, conversational style. The man should consider holding lectures and seminars.5. There are many life lessons to be gleaned.Even if you are not a lawyer or a law junkie, this book is simply a fascinating case study in how pride goeth before a fall, youths are sacrificed on the altar of football, and lives can be derailed by keeping the wrong company. Hernandez’s story is a true Greek tragedy. An unexpected lesson is the fact that everything we think we know about a case from media coverage can be so wrong.

Mrs. Andre here. Still crying after reading this. He didn't have to die this way. Much evidence points to his innocence and I am appalled and disgusted by corrupt law enforcement. How DARE they trying link him and only him to these crimes? The Patriots are disgusting too. They turned their back on him without giving him any benefit of the doubt. I'm glad he's at peace. The truth about CTE must not be concealed. I feel like Baez will fight for Aaron and all future players against the NFL. They can't continue to lie.

Báez is coming for everyone and we should all be here for it! 👏👏👏 After the James Patterson book proved to be as insightful as a poop-emoji essay, I had some reservations about another AH book. Hernandez never spoke to the media about any of his legal issues, he did not make any statements through his agent or lawyer, and did not grant any sit-down interviews about any part of his ordeal, which means wanting to report on him is going to limit you to either summarizing previously published think-pieces or interviewing someone's uncle’s co-worker's nephew's former neighbor — who once saw AH holding a footbal at Briston Central High School— in order to get some “insight’ into what happened. Watching AH's interaction in court w/ this legal team was priceless and this book does a great job of adding all the "behind the scenes."This book is a page-turner!

I started reading this book believing Aaron Hernandez was guilty. I’m from Boston and a huge Pats fan so the last thing I wanted to believe was that Aaron was capable of this but everything I heard on the news pointed to his guilt. I was one of the many people who believed Aaron got annoyed over a spilled drink so he shot and killed 2 people - I assumed he was some lucky punk who felt untouchable but I’ve changed my mind.I couldn’t put this book down! Jose Baez really broke the case down and explained everything so well. It’s unbelievable to me how the prosecution could put this man on trial with no real evidence. And I still can’t get over the street sweeper 😳What could have been such a beautiful life ended so tragically. Clearly Aaron Hernandez was in a lot of pain and is hopefully at peace now.

Not sure where to begin...I was able to complete this book in one day. Not because it was a short read, quite the opposite. I was so intrigued with every detail and word coming from Jose. I felt like I was there in the trial and shared the experiences with Aaron along with the lawyers. It was very engaging. So many facts that were shared that I wasn't aware of. Born and raised in Florida, we KNOW who's who for football. Aaron was "that" guy! Such an enormous talent. We can't go back in time, but I honestly believe if Jose Baez would have taken on the first trial, Aaron and Shayanna would have had the life that was expected. For those who have NOT read it, I don't want to give details away, but it will be well worth the money. The trial was boring to me and I couldn't follow, but Mr. Baez wrote the book so we as readers could understand and follow. All of the intricate pieces of evidence were presented and now I see how a NOT GUILTY verdict was rendered. The media was only out for ratings, but if you want to know the facts, read the book from the people who were actually involved. I was deeply touched. If for nothing else, I hear the proceeds from the book will go to Aaron's daughter, the truly innocent victim in all of this.Thanks Jose, job well done.

The novelization of Revenge of the Sith is without a doubt the most well-written Star Wars book I have ever read (and I’ve read nearly a hundred). I’m not even a huge fan of the prequel films. But from the first page to the last, I savored Stover’s version of an extremely dramatic and tragic series of events in the Star Wars universe. He had me writing down memorable quotes, fighting back tears, and completely tuning out the real world until I had finished reading–and I already knew the ending!Readers like myself attempt to describe the beauty of this novel, but we cannot do it justice. But to put it simply, Stover hasn’t just written a good Star Wars book; he’s crafted an experience. He draws in the readers, helping us identify and sympathize with Anakin. The novel allows you to view scenes from the film from different viewpoints, from the perspective of different characters, and through the lens of expert prose.Books like this remind me why I enjoy Star Wars, reading, great storytelling, and even the English language. This novel speaks to the ideas of despair, hope, loyalty, manipulation, courage, and, of course, darkness and light. With Revenge of the Sith, Stover sets the standard for not only a great film novelization, but for an engaging Star Wars book. I fully plan on returning to this book regularly.

I don't want to be that person that says "the book is better than the movie" every time, but well. This one? Does prove the point.When one thinks about adapting screenplays into books, it doesn't sound like too heavy a literally work. Certainly not the place to find complex storytelling devices or deep soul-searching inner monologues. One thinks the author will be bound and gagged by the movie.... Someone forgot to tell Stover all of that.The Revenge of the Sith is everything the movie should have been - and more; that only literature could give you. Even the stunted dialogue seems to be dissolved by everything going on around it. Characters are far better explored, far deeper, and whole new storylines are developed from things that were taken out of the movie - and the book's better for it; hell, the MOVIE is better after reading the book.Not to mention some very remarkable quotes.Emotional, complex and beautifully written; the RotS novelization is far beyond an adventure and far beyond a sci-fi novel; it is a book about people (human or not). And in bringing this feeling to life, Stover also brings the feeling that made Star Wars so well loved by both people who are sci-fi fans and those who aren't, back.

This book was recommended to me by a close friend who's also a writer. This book is literally what the movie SHOULD have been. Just wow. Every single page. Every sentence, every word...it's just sensational. It's definitely one of my favorite Star Wars books. If you've seen the movie, this will forever change your perception and feeling of that movie. This basically takes the movie and all those characters and expands on them in a way that is hard to explain in words. You have to dive into this and you'll see what I'm talking about.And this is coming from someone that strongly disliked the 2nd trilogy of movies. The movie suffered from a lot of issues. This book, single handedly fixes all of them.Go buy this book. Read it and may the force be with you.

If I hadn't known which came first, I'd think the movie was just a crappy adaptation of this wonderful book! The writing style is spectacular, the characterization is insightful and spot on, the plot shows excellent pacing and detail, and this book does an amazing job of taking Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme into the dimension of being realistic, multifaceted, sympathetic characters instead of the cartoonish caricatures we got in the movies. The book doesn't *change* the characters or anything like that - quite the opposite. It fleshes them out with incredible skill and builds on their thoughts, feelings, and motivations in a way that makes them all seem very, very human and relatable (in the case of Padme, Obi-Wab, and Anakin) or infuriatingly horrifying (in the case of Dooku and Palpatine), and the entire range in between for some of the other characters like the Council members and senators. I would strongly suggest anyone who saw Episode III - or the prequels in general, for that matter - as a "dropped ball" due to lousy pacing, shallow characterization, and\or lame dialogue read this book. It'll change everything.

The official novelization of Star Wars Revenge Of The Sith is based on both the story and screenplay by George Lucas. Because of this fact, the book communicates the same story as the movie but with much extended scenes as well as some altered details such as dialog. The tale of Anakin Skywalker's fall to the dark side is nicely fleshed out in this novel and I have to say that once things get rolling the book is hard to put down.If you plan on reading James Luceno's Labyrinth Of Evil, I suggest that you do so before reading this novel. Luceno's prequel is excellent, but once you have read Revenge Of The Sith there is really no need to go back in time and read Labyrinth Of Evil. Matthew Stover does a fine job of delivering this story in a fully understandable format, even if you haven't read any Star Wars novels from the expanded universe.Over all, this novel is a good thick one with all the great stuff that you expect from Star Wars. Several references to events that occurred in previous expanded universe novels are scattered throughout this book but there aren't so many that you would get lost if you haven't read those novels. So, if you are a fan of all things Star Wars or if you haven't yet explored beyond the movies, I believe that you will enjoy this dramatic story.
