Great ideas, innovative. The only problem so far is the exercises are not ordered correctly, more complex grooves come before simpler ones. I worked with the simpler pieces first, then, went back and learned the difficult exercises. You must know how to read drum music before you use this book, and have some good independence.
I played drums in high school; played in some jazz bands as I got older and began too raise a family I put playing on the back burner. At 55 I got the fever again began to think wouldn't playing drums be a great way to exercise while doing something I enjoyed doing. This is when I discovered Mike Clark. I love the exercises he presents in this book and it's right in line with what I'm trying to accomplish musically. And Mike does not muscle the drums he plays them with great taste like Harvey Mason or Steve Gadd two master drummers with whom I pattern my style. This book is a great treasure.Thank you Mike Clark, Master Drummer

Its a great book if youre into Mike Clarks drumming...It isnt so much progressively based, by that I mean it doesnt have you DEVELOP starting say "here at A" then work your way progressing indifficulty to eventually "here at Z" - meaning start easy at first, methodically develop your skills until you reach Z - from A to ZThis book dives right into Mike Clarks drumming, his drum beats are given and you can "have at it"Sweet drum beats to learn. But again, it isnt as much a method based book where you progress and advance as you go. It is pretty much, theres the swimming pool, jump in and swim.Great book none the less because you have access to some SWEET funk drumming patterns / grooves alot of which are played by Mike Clark on the accompanying CD.If youre a Mike Clark fan, BUY THIS!
This book is awesome, I'm kind of an advanced drummer and this make me confuse me a lot and is addictive, yo can stop playing once you open it, it will blow your mind, and it will help you to be more creative will jaming, it doesn't matter what music do you like to play, this book wll help you a lot as a drummer, buying this book is a wise decision.
Like many drummers, I have marveled at Mike Clark's amazing rhythms on albums such as "Thrust", and have been left scratching my head wondering "how does he do that?"This book really broke down Mike's brand of highly syncopated, 16th-note funk for me, increased my understanding, and opened up a lot of doors for my drumming. It's full of practical examples, that you can actually use in a musical situation.If you take the time to work through all of these exercises, you will be surprised at just how funky you can sound! I personally found this book is the real deal.
Great grooves.
I have the greatest respect for Mike's playing and his contributions to the music. In this book he clearly lays out alot of material that had mystified me. Very glad I bought this book and I recommend it to all drummers who want to expand their funky abilities.
