Amazing info in the emerging beer scene I'm Arkansas
The craft brewing industry in Arkansas is booming and evolving at a rapid pace. Published in 2017, Arkansas Beer takes a deep quaff of the history of beer and brewing in Arkansas and gives a snapshot of a brewing scene that is growing. Perhaps there will be a revised edition in a year or so. That said, it is expertly written, informative and eye-opening. There is so much about the history of alcohol and beer making in Arkansas that was largely forgotten or unknown to 21st century beer drinkers until Arkansas Beer was published. Before Prohibition, every city of reasonable size could support a brewery. Back then, Little Rock had it's own unique brewery and backing from major brewing families in the US. After Prohibition and the industrialization of the craft, the concept of a hometown beer was lost for about 60 years. Now that it has come back, you see every population center in America embracing the notion of having their local suds and on top of that an appreciation of the wide variety of beer styles both traditional and newfangled that can be found in your own town.Author Brian Sorenson tells that story for just one obscure US State, one that people would be surprised to find out produces practically all the rice that Bud Light drinkers consume! Also there are kudos to the state for having such clean, soft water for brewing, and credit given to innovative and enterprising people who tried time and again to revive the craft in the state and eventually succeeded. This book tells their story in words and pictures. You will find very little ground not covered by Arkansas Beer. Aside from a couple of inconsequential factual errors (e.g., Jesse Melton is Russ Melton's nephew, not son) This book expands and delights the palate of any beer-loving Arkansas history buff. Prost!
Great read. Learned more about the people I have met while having great beers in Arkansas.
