This is an overview of the canon Buffy comic. As a TV series, Buffy's glory years were in high school. After that, the show lost its sense of magic and romance, gradually becoming a gloomy, poorly plotted bummer. Season 7 is littered with continuity errors. Enter season 8 in comic form, widely touted as JOSS WHEDON's season 8! Season 8 generally had very good artwork and got off to a strong start. Then it all went goofy. Whedon is a woke feminist so, of course, Buffy goes temporarily "gay now". Without spoilers, the last two thirds of season 8 are a dull mess. Season 9 is stronger, even though wokeness rears its grisly head again. Buffy might need an abortion! What choice will she make? Surely there's more to feminism than being gay or debating abortion. Even philandering Whedon's fake brand of feminism. After season 9 the artwork declines, by season 12 it's at Bazooka Joe level. Seasons 10 and 11 are ok storywise, then 12 limps to its death in a single, snoozer volume. Narratively, it's pretty iffy. A Big Bad that was surely long dead is now alive, doing, as it turned out, nothing. The ending is a dud and after all these years it's tempting to wonder if Buffy's legacy wouldn't have been stronger if it was cancelled after the wondrous season 3.

Although it was refreshing to have a briskly moving plot after dozens of tediously slow story arcs in earlier volumes, this was overly rushed and could have used a second book's worth of development. Especially the inexplicably jolting ending in a scant few pages.But what really disappointed was the horrible art. I can't tell if its all on the inker or colorist but the character's faces and expressions were barely recognizable. So possibly the penciler as well. The facial close ups were especially misshapen. A sad finale after so many beautifully rendered previous volumes. I strongly vote for a redo.

I'm a hard-core fan of the Buffyverse for many years, so the ending of the canonical series is a really big deal for me. And it did not dissapoint; actually, the final volume was very rewarding and satisfying. My personal favorite is everything Fray-related and Faith-related. I loved the art--as I always love the art by Georges Jeanty. The only thing that slightly spoiled the treat (spoiler alert) is that there is no mention and, hence, closure about a certain huge-importance let-it-stay-unnamed prophecy from Angel TV Series; I really hoped it would be used. Otherwise, I love it so much! Thank you, Joss, for this fantastic journey!

For the final installment of Dark Horse's Buffy I expected to have more closure with the Scooby core. Aside from that, I enjoyed the story and how they tied back in the Fray storyline.

I loved this ending for the Buffy comics. After ending the show twice, this third conclusion was very satisfying. I was glad to see all the beloved characters again and how they’ve grown. The story overall was well thought out. It didn’t feel rushed, and the writing was right on. Now if we could get the actors to play this out—it would make a great reunion movie. ;) In the meantime, I’m happy to read this again.

If you enjoyed seasons 10 & 11 of Buffy you will probably not enjoy this one. It seems that Mr. Whedon played a larger role in the writing of the final season and that he did not like much of how the plot or characters were developing. Do yourself a favour - ignore this one.

This is such a beautiful book. I love how Phillip tells his story and especially how he talks about his unwavering faith in Jesus! That was the best.

An autobiography less than 250 pages seems skimpy, especially for someone who has been in the music business for over forty years. However, Philip Bailey packs SHINING STAR with so many interesting stories about himself, Maurice White and Earth, Wind & Fire without being long-winded. Like a good commercial song, the veteran singer/songwriter uses the "don't bore us, get to the chorus" approach in sharing his life on paper. As a result, SHINING STAR is a very entertaining read that reveals facts that would startle even a seasoned EWF fan. Bailey honestly writes about his complicated relationship with women and Maurice without resorting to melodrama. Die hard EWF fans will drool over Bailey's recollections on recording some of the group's best-known albums and songs as well as the financial challenges of a group trying to stay on top.The best part about this autobiography is that Bailey tells an intriguing story without sensationalism, unnecessary name-dropping or cursing. A great read for anybody who is interested in one of the best R&B bands ever.

An excellent read! The perfect mix of Phillip sharing his personal life and the inner workings of EWF. What an amazing band and what a talented singer......the Voice!! Despite humble beginnings he persevered; great inspiration. An added bonus is that he shares his faith. Amen my Brother and may God continue to bless you and your family.

I enjoyed the insight of EWF through the eyes of Phillip Bailey. EWF was and is my absolute favorite group for many reasons. It was a respectful and yet candid look at the making and progression of the group. It was a look into the life of Phillip Bailey, his early struggles, frailties and strengths. Thanks for sharing.

I was born during World War 11 and admit to knowing little about the second World War and our brave fighter pilots. Of course, I had heard of the legendary Eddie Rickenbacker. I knew he was the squad leader of the legendary 94th Aero Squadron in World War 1, but that was about it.This book really brought the early 1900s into focus as it weaves a fascinating tale of Eddie Rickenbacker's life. He truly was an amazing person. This huge 361 page volume comes to life because the author of "Enduring Courage" makes this story full of excitement forcing you to keep turning the pages. This book follows the early history and final days of a true American patriot and hero. This excellent book is organized into four sections (or books).The first book (Racing) covers chapters one through five and deals with the early days of Eddie and his father and mother who were German immigrants beginning a new life in the United States. Life was very hard at that time. When Eddie's father died the young man had to take over the leadership of his family. Fortunately, Eddie's mother was a very strong person. This section also tells of Eddie Rickenbacker's first introduction to cars and racing. This is where he first became well-known for his courage on the race track. The second book (section-Flying) focuses on the first flying experience of young Eddy and his first introduction to learning how to fly the early death traps they called planes. He became an expert pilot. The third book (section-Fighting) deals with World War 1 and America's entry into that war with the British and the French fighting Germany. Eddie and a few other expert pilots became known as "Ace Pilots" in his 94th Aero squadron. The last section (Immortality) deals with the incredible courage and durability of Eddie Rickenbacker. Not only had he survived car crashes in his racing days, and his close calls flying the "death traps" , but he also survived a plane crash in the ocean. When all hope seemed to be lost after many days at sea in a small life boat Eddie again showed his leadership and courage by taking charge until they were rescued.To be honest, this short review cannot do justice to this wonderful and inspiring book. I now know more about the legendary and courageous Eddie Rickenbacker than most people. Man, what a life this guy had. He had more than nine lives for sure and you will understand why when you finish reading this book.I purchased this book because I wanted to learn about America's first Ace of Aces and what made him so good. Just about every biography starts off with the mandatory beginning of explaining the persons childhood which I always find a little boring and this book is no exception. But once you get through that and into how he started his race car days there is not a dull moment in the book or in his amazing life. I especially ordered this book so that I could learn more about his crash in the pacific during WWII and how he set the survival at sea record for a little while until another now famous Louis Zamperini surpassed it just a little while later in the war.The number one thing that I learned from this book was that Rickenbacker was not just a wild crazy former race car driver but also a natural born leader. My favorite high-light from the book was:Throughout history the best-prepared fighters in all of combat’s endlessly changing forms have faltered, stumbled, and failed without strong leadershipI highly recommend this book.

I really prefer not to give this book a rating but merely describe what's inside.First, the Amazon product description is accurate. The book comes with an audio CD. It is a kids' story-book type book (thin but large = 8-1/2" x 11"), primarily in the German language with text in a large font.As Amazon indicates, it is 32 pages - so 2 sides per page equals 16 sheets. Again, story-book type book for either a child to read or a parent to read as a good-night story.The English translations are provided for the text on each page, but due to "real estate" limitations, German text, song lyrics, and English translation and graphics competing with each other, the font for the English translation is about 1/2 the size of the German font and sometimes the translation "refined" to make it more concise (and require less space on the page).The quality of the narration and music / singing is available on the Amazon web site for preview, so one can form their own opinions before deciding whether to purchase this book.The selection of songs is somewhat confusing because the primary focus of this book is German traditions, so including songs translated into German, such as White Christmas (USA, Irving Berlin in 1930's / 1940's), Winter Wonderland (USA, 1930's), and Jingle Bells, is kind of an oxymoron. But the author identifies which songs are traditional German carols.The book only provides complete lyrics for 2 or 3 songs. Only the first and maybe second stanzas of the remaining songs (13 or so) are provided on the pages. It was a let down to see Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht (Silent Night Holy Night) presented with only a single stanza in both versions: English and German. FYI, there are 3 stanzas in the song.In a nutshell, I believe this book is best used by a German speaking parent or grandparent to read to young children before going to bed in the weeks before Christmas telling their (grand)children what Christmas used to be like for them, with maybe some milk and cookies using the recipes in the book - book only provides 3 (Cinnamon Stars, Lebkuchen = Gingerbread, and Baked apples_.It is charming book - but falls short of being a reference on German Christmas traditions.Since it is intended to be a bi-lingual "Teach Me" book, I struggle to think which would've been better: English in large font, with German on the side lines, or as is. For children in the US, I think the former is the better, as I doubt very few kids would have German language skills to read this book at such a young age.

Very nice book. We bought the book to share family tradition with our children: please do read the "poor" review regarding what is represented in the book along with the commenters' responses. Apparently this may disagree in places with some of the holiday traditions some have experienced. There are differences in the way a culture may celebrate a holiday such as Christmas, however, so perhaps simply be ready to explain how your family may have done things differently if the book deviates from your tradition. (Although things like celebrating St. Nicholas and Epiphany, as an example, are things that are not part of US culture, but do occur in Germany, and they are highlighted in the book...) Overall, I think it represented the spirit of the holiday culturally quite well, and particularly important to me, it did so *IN GERMAN*, not just in English, and not only written, but spoken as well.

For anyone who has spent time in Europe during Christmastime, this is sure to bring back fond memories.This book explains German Christmas traditions with good detail. Each tradition is written out both in English and in German. Overall the translation is good, but centered more on meaning than word for word. The accompanying CD is narrated in German - I didn't realize the stories would also be on the CD so this was a nice surprise.At first the pages can be a little overwhelming to look at and might be difficult for a child to follow because of all the text, but the pictures are nice and colorful.The voice of the Woman on the CD is very dramatic with a strong vibrato - Good German style, but could be seen by some as a bit over the top. The childrens choir is great.

This is a very good music and book. The cd is very well done and the songs are all memorable and instantly likeable German Christmas songs. This is a cd which is pleasant just to listen to. Our family has been learning little bits of German language and German folk songs and this is an especially nice one for the Christmas season. The music is all very cheerful and lively sounding. The lady gives a carefully pronounced narration in German before each song, which is translated in the book into English. We got another cd of German Christmas songs "WeinachtLieder" by LiederProjekt, which was not nearly as nice.

This is a charming little book and the associated CD makes it a wonderful tool for learning how to hear spoken German. The songs are well chosen and quite lovely. I was surprised at how many of these songs are also selections on Deutsche Grammophon's "das Weihnachtsalbum" Christmas Album: Original Masters, which is itself a five star choice for any kind of Chistmas music.I have two small observations: The translations from Greman to English are not what I would call "literal" but rather "paraphrase." But that is not really bad because one should always make one's own translation. Second, I would have omitted the English versions of some of the songs. But these are just "de minimus" observations.

I learned a lot about the Christmas traditions along with the songs. A great resource.

love it! we listen to it and my daughter dances around... i want her to be familiar with other languages. this is my fav of all the ones we have bought. it also teaches a bit about German culture and traditions too which i find valuable in fostering a sense of others-centeredness. i want my kids to know and understand that we Americans aren't "it" and that there are very interesting and valuable things to learn and appreciate about ather cultures and people groups.
