In SEP I left my job of 27 years which was at the end of a forty or so year career in IT. Much of that was unpleasant, long, rewarding and challenging, but never true to my core interests; I just happened to be good at IT. Richard Leider has put together a very simple book with some manageable steps to re-start your life, doing what you actually enjoy. For three months or so I've been working through the process of trying to figure out what is next on my own, and also working with a professional firm which focuses primarily on getting you back in the work force. I ordered this last last week and it's helped me focus more than any other approach over the past three months. Reading "Life Reimagined" is like having a nice thoughtful person listening to you and being supportive of your interests, your need to do something really important and enjoyable for YOU in the time you have left. It's thought provoking enough that one would benefit reading it long before being Social Security eligible.

Life Reimagined: Discovering Your New Life Possibilities by Leider and Webber is a disappointment. The chapters cover the right topics: the pros and cons of aging, discovering your true passion, re-imagining your life, and trying out new possibilities. And the authors have a good overall plan for doing this work - stay curious, reflect, connect with others, expore, and then experiment with some new things. But the content is handled in a very superficial way. Even the interviews with people about how they re-imagined their lives are done in a superficial way - as if the interviews were conducted through a couple of short emails. The results, I'm sorry to say, are rather insipid.The topics in this book are important and deserve more serious treatment. If you want a more in-depth approach to this kind of work, I recommend that you try other books. Aging as a Spiritual Practice: A Contemplative Guide to Growing Older and Wiser by Lewis Richmond and Travels with Epicurus: A Journey to a Greek Island in Search of a Fulfilled Life by Daniel Klein are both much better options to consider.

Nothing new or useful here. Lots of stories about and interviews with others and virtually no exercises for you to put recommendations into practice. Continually refers to the related website, assuming you are entering your fears, hopes and personal plans there. If that's your style then just go to the website and skip the book altogether, although based on the book I'm not sure how much value the website offers.

The book is basically a process of exploration and reflection, encouraging you to try different things and see how they work out. It seems a little bit pretentious (repeating "Life Reimagined is ..." over and over), but is basically sound. Not sure I like the AARP connection, though. They don't really represent senior citizens or retired folks - they just want your money, via insurance, etc. So be wary of the constant encouragement to visit "their" web site. It's another way to give the AARP your email address, and get a bunch of junk mail in return.In short, the book does the job if you are a self-starter and need to make a change. It gets you thinking about alternatives, and trying them out. The book "Life by Design" (by Tom Ferry) provides a more rigorous method, and is more likely to get you the results you want, especially if you want to make a radical change.

This is a book for people in a life transition. I found it fairly basic and simple. It provided some nice exercises and challenges, but nothing very profound. The concept has become a movement in some areas, so it may act as an intro to more comprehensive support and involvement. It is a good intro to how to think about transition and how to work through exercises to determine your core values

This book paints a new picture of retirement. It casts a new light on that time in everyone's life. Past books, movies, TV shows and all other media say retirement is a time to go off, fish and wait your time to die. This book challenges people to look at things differently.It is a mere shelf help book. You won't find anything earth shattering or life changing. The book has some very entertaining stories mixed in all throughout the book. The authors present a new way to at retirement. They call retirement a new start instead of an end. The whole program calls for people to reflect, connect, explore options, choose options, repack things, and then act. I know that sounds very simple. Once you read through the book you will see things differently. This new look will cause you to rethink options, see new things.It is a great book for all, whether retirement is tomorrow or years away.

I am currently taking a 9-month leadership course with lots of assigned reading; we were also charged with finding books to read on our own. This one caught my attention in the AARP magazine (full disclosure: I am only in my late 30's, but I am an AARP member because my husband is over 50 and we joined). This was the first book I read during my course that actually got me excited about change in my life. I found that most of the book offered concrete examples and tips, and generated excitement for me without trite platitudes (I should say that late chapters seemed to rely a bit more on such platitudes, but most of the book did not; it just drops off a bit towards the end). I also went to the Life Reimagined website and used many of the assessment tools, which are user-friendly, helpful, and kind of fun, to boot. I recommend checking out the book and the website, no matter how old you are. The messages and tools are timeless.

I keep buying guidebooks that promise to show me what's hip, especially where shopping and sites are concerned, and am always disappointed. This focuses WAY too much on modern architecture, which is fairly mundane in Delhi, and on obscure shops all over the city. There are perhaps less cutting edge but more interesting shops around - and, certainly, more interesting sites, which I assume they ignore in favor of "regular" guidebooks. I didn't try any of the dining suggestions.

The Wallpaper city guides overall do not fare well for ratings. I have many of them and I get them to help sift down to some of key sites out of the thousands, or millions in Delhi's case - as I typically will only have a free day here and there when I travel for business.I have found on my many trips to India that we go to the same hotels, the same restaurants, the same tours for new travellers. This provides some alternatives for the typical sites and scenes, at least that I have been exposed to. There are places in here for shoppong that I would not have found without this guide as most of my local colleages prefer malls, which is not my style. It also provides some ideas for different restaurants other than the typical high end choices like Bukara et al.Also keep in mind that much of the recommendations are taken from articles in Wallpaper magazine; an arts, design and archtecture magazine...so those topics are a focus of all these guides. I love the archtecture suggestions as they end up being places I would not otherwise seek out. I will likely make a trip to Chandighar on my next visit to see it's mid century modern architecture as a result of it being showcased in this book.Not for everybody, not a complete guide, yes they focus on high end hotels and restuarants but if I splurge on one meal or one great hotel as a result of these recommendations it is worth the $8 to me if it makes my trip. I find most guidebooks overwhelming in their choices.I want to know what is REALLY interesting and good, not a long list.

I have just finished reading this book, and I have to say it could have been one of the most important books on service management and improvement I read in a long time. Sadly, John Seddon seems to have missed the opportunity to make this book a seminal text in the services business, for the following reasons:1. Mr. Seddon has very strong, almost religious, beliefs in his methodology and the Vanguard system he promotes. So much so that he has to identify enemies and burn them at the stake, repeatedly. His enemies range from supporters of competing methodologies, solution vendors, consultants, and worst of all 'managers', who he has to discredit and put down every other paragraph. John, they are your potential audience, I'd think you want them to read your book and adapt your system, no?2. Despite his strong belief in his system, Mr. Seddon does not disclose many details on how to actually make it work. The book is more a series of anecdotes with several nuggets of knowledge here and there, rather than a foundation for implementing a services improvement project based on its teachings3. Mr. Seddon and his publishers have not invested in editing, therefore the book does not read well, the paragraphs are frequently a non-flowing collection of sentences, words and phrases are put between quotes unnecessarily and many sections read like a collection of presentation bullets rather than a well thought of and assembled story4. The book is produced cheaply, using rough, thin paper and too narrow margins, leaving too little room for writing comments. For a book that costs as much as this one does this is inexcusable.I believe Mr. Seddon should have asked himself the same questions he promotes in this book: "what is the purpose of this book?" and "how would my customers want to see it delivered?", and while the answers would not have changed the excellent message they would have definitely made his book much more usable and influential.Despite this, I give the book four stars, due to the important message it carries.

One of the best books out there on the subject of Lean Service. This book changed my way of thinking as related to service and customer.

IF you're involved in service, read this book. Clear, easily understood connections between lean concepts and how they apply to the world of service - the one are in business with the highest degree of variability. This is a must read.

A fairly short (200 page) text that interprets and presents Lean techniques developed for manufacturing into specifics that can be immediately applied to service businesses. I have hightlighted and dog-eared almost every page in this book and refer to it often to help direct the focus of my work. I highly recommend it and have purchased copies for the other managers in my group.

This brief book offers a lot in a small package. Although the customer-driven systems management strategy that John Seddon outlines is hardly new, he offers a fresh discussion about applying it to service organizations. Although this management tactic has proven itself indisputably, many managers and most organizations will find it radical. The author clearly, concisely illustrates its merits with numerous examples from a range of industries, with particular reference to the successful Toyota Production System. However, Seddon is frank about the kind and degree of opposition that reform will encounter. He also debunks other management systems in light of this approach. We highly recommend this book to all managers with the note that you can only implement its findings if you enjoy the full support of top management.

Perfect for the study I was doing for on Western Liturgy. I used this in conjuction with a number of other texts.

Haven't had time to crack it open yet. I'm confident it is an excellent resource as it was recommended by a solid Dominican teacher.

Dr. Klauser presents a classical interpretation of the changes and developments in the liturgy from the time of Christ to Vatican Council II. The work is divided into four periods which have become standard designations: from the Ascension of Jesus to Gregory the Great, "creative beginnings," (30-590); from Gregory the Great to Gregory VII, "expansion under Franco-German preeminence," (590-1073); from Gregory VII to the Council of Trent, "luxuriant growth," (1073-1545); and from Trent to Vatican II, "unification and regulation," (1545-1963). Each period is introduced with a concise summary followed by Dr. Klauser's discussion. Four appendices are included and the translator has added a page of citations to supplement the 57-page bibliography.Of particular interest to the reader, Dr. Klauser does not hesitate to point out misdirections the Church has taken such as development of the cult of the sacrament playing out "the misuse of the mass as a devotional exercise in front of the monstrance" (p.139). In another example he discusses the shocking revisions to the liturgy brought about by Vatican II (p.153-159). In all, an easy (although scholarly) and informing read, laced with history and enlightening asides.

My understanding is that this book is going to be updated and if so, would be welcome. I read a ton of reviews that praised this book and while I'm sure they are correct, it's not light reading. I also felt that some topics weren't covered too well for someone that isn't a novice but isn't an expert either. It's written very matter-of-factly, so I felt like if you are strong at this topic or have a good solid foundation, you'll be good. If you are a newer person or looking to have a clearer understanding, I feel that this let me down a bit.

I've not completed reading this book yet but let me tell you this is absolutely the book that needed to be written on this subject. I've taken lots of courses in forensics and this re-established the knowledge from those courses. I can confirm the validity of the information provided from the courses I've taken and it's served as a good mix of new material and refresher material. Granted, I have a few hundred pages to go but the way this is going I can't recommend it enough. This is basically The Bible of file systems. It's a book you should read once simply to have the exposure to the knowledge he provides. No regrets with this purchase. Wholeheartedly recommending this to anyone who wants to go above and beyond in this field.

It's a little out dated (2006) but all the basics are there. Microsoft has rewritten some of the rules recently and you have to read up on those but this will give you a start. That is why I bought it!

An informative book can get a bit dense at times. This book helped me with an operating systems class. It is one book for the reference bookshelf, digital or otherwise.

This book is the beginning and ending point for anyone who needs to know how to forensically examine a computers hard drive. Understanding the file system layouts and forensic procedures described in this book is necessary to truly testify as an expert, otherwise you are just trusting that what ever tool you use is going to work. Carrier does a very good job of laying out all of the steps necessary to create a forensically sound disk image as well as going into all of the details of how the most commonly used file systems are structured and how to examine them at the lowest levels using a simple hex editor. While this book alone will not make you a forensic expert, it provides all of the information necessary to perform a forensic examination of the most common file systems and the procedure it lays out on how to perform the examination can be used on any file system.

I can't say enough good things about this book and author. The material is beautifully laid out and the writing style is fluid and effortless. The author has a real talent for using metaphors and figures to illustrate elusive concepts.All but the very rarest file systems are covered, and numerous 'screenshots' show how to use the Linux command prompt and get your hands dirty exploring disks on your own.While this book is a gold standard for digital forensic examiners, it would also be valuable to the computer enthusiast who's interested in things such as what happens to their hard drive when they format it, exactly what happens during the boot process, etc.I've had 3 courses in digital forensics, and this book gives an in-depth discussion of disk level concepts (HPA, FAT, MFT, etc) that were merely glossed over in my formal studies.

This isn't beach reading by any stretch of the imagination. I used the book as a read-along for some online seminars I was doing in digital forensics, and it helped me to understand the concepts better. Brian Carrier is also the author of the Sleuth Kit forensics package. It's a must have if you're doing any kind of digital forensics or data recovery work.

This is an excellent book for an introduction to file systems. This was a required text for a college course in digital forensics and it was a good learning supplement
