I'm kinda offended that the book doesn't include the Mosrite guitar--especially The Ventures Model Mosrite. From the '60s to this day, The Ventures remain popular. These guitars now sell for $4000-$6000 on eBay and retail. THE PREMISE of this book is stated in the amazon description: "In this spectacular full-color deluxe volume, Guitar Aficionado magazine--today's preeminent luxury guitar publication--presents THE WORLD'S MOST EPIC GUITARS, the stories behind them, and the people who own them." (And note that it is presented by "Guitar Aficionado Magazine", notably NOT entitled "Famous Guitar Owners Magazine".).UPDATE: The title of the book is "The Most Famous, Rare, and Valuable Guitars in the World". To not include a guitar that is revered, considered a collector's item, and sells for $4000-$5000 is a serious failure of this book and so it deserves ONE STAR. if you are truly a person that loves guitars and the music that comes from them . you need to have this book. I thought as fan of guitar I might place this book on the coffee table to have too look at ever now and than. Once i open the book couldn't take my hands off for 4 days . Just keep going thru the collection that these people had and just couldn't but it down.

This book is beautiful! Well written with stunning photographs of some of the iconic guitars of our time. I bought it as a Christmaspresent for my nephew who is learning to play and is constantly looking at guitars on his computer... I can't wait to see his facewhen he gets it. Not to nitpick but what is up with the section on James Hetfield? There are two pages of text devoted to hislove of custom automobiles and barely any mention of the guitars on display in the book. I for one would have loved to hearthe story behind the guitars. Other than that, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves the six-string!

This book has beautiful photographs and good narrative discussing each guitar. It is of high quality, well put together and has gold leaf on the page edges which adds to it's nice design. I bought this for my husband and he loves it. This book is great for any guitar lover and would look great on a coffee table.

Bought for a client for holiday gift. He loved it. Professional man who loves music and plays in clubs. When it arrived, the cover was marked with black marks. I was able to get them off with some cleaner but it was annoying to receive a dirty item.

It is very well produced. It's not five star because some of the guitar collections, in the beginning of the book, have been featured in the magazine already. Feel this is a bit of a 'cheat' since the recipient has already read mags cover to cover and keeps them all. Other than that, certainly worth the price.

Super collectible coffee table book. I was fortunate to purchase this book before the price took off. Great photography coupled with the stories behind some very notable guitars and guitar collections. A must read for any guitarist.

When it starts to thunder and rain, the outing becomes a washout, and they all scurry into a cabin. After saying goodnight to everything and everyone, the last goodnight is saved for the friends' tighty-whities. The final spread features Bear asleep while a bright, happy moon (wearing undies, of course) gazes down upon him. Children will fall asleep with smiles on their faces from this silly bedtime story. Bear and his friends are illustrated as simple, colorful critters with oversize eyes. Readers can touch a pair of puffy underwear worn by Bear, which is embedded on the front cover. Reading book reviews when I ran across this title. Harriet Ziefert alone grabs my attention as I'm a children's librarian. My grandson was going on a special camping trip with his parents (and not his little sister), and I had to get this to him before he went camping -- I imagine he watched for animals in underwear in the woods he hiked that weekend. Spot-on text; padded underwear on the book cover; appealing illustrations and story. A 5-star triple-threat book for preschoolers. The book binding could be better for library use, but I will take my chances and let the book circulate as long as it lasts. Some stories are worth that effort!

One of the very first books my son really loved was "Goodnight Moon", so this book was a perfect find when we started potty training him. He will sit down and "read" the book to us (we've read it so much he's memorized most of it), and we'll sometimes catch him saying, "OUCH! Bug in the eye!" If your family enjoyed "Goodnight Moon", you'll love this one!

My 3 year old really liked this book. We read this for a good 6 months. Liked the pictures, the text was fun, and liked that they're talking about underwear since we were also going through potty training. We learned to say goodnight to his underwear each evening :).

My son LOVES this book. I have read it so many times, I think I have it memorized. It's cute and silly.

My daughter loves these books! We use these to help her learn to read.

Sweet. My nephew loves it. Has a tighty-whitey under pant on the bear. OMGEEEE!

The book itself is a cute idea. My son found it sort of amusing. I personally loved the illustrations the best. It doesn't make me want to run out and get the rest of the Bear in Underwear books though.

I have only read the previous editions of this book, but I assume that with the same authors it hasnâ€™t changed much. It makes many useful procedural points, but its consistent use of â€œprogressiveâ€ and â€œpolitically correctâ€ examples will put off those few students who have not succumbed to the political propaganda of the curriculum and faculty in contemporary American education. Authors who have recommend Noam Chomsky as a reliable author in previous editions have run off the tracks intellectually. If assigned to read this, focus on their procedural recommendations for speech making. Consult other books on how to silence those who are disruptive and donâ€™t truly believe in intellectual freedom and debate. Such speeches can sometimes be found on YouTube, although this internet company has become increasingly hostile and censorial when it comes to those who donâ€™t share the left-wing views of those who predominate in Silicon Valley. I love the fact that this book comes with a forewarning instead of a foreword. That got me hooked. I was raised by a very strict Catholic family, lived across the street from the church, and was always afraid of God when I was young. I saw him as being the big scorekeeper in the sky who was tracking all my sins in thought, word and deed....Really? Even thought? While I still believe in God and practice my faith, I have always considered myself a fringe dweller and love seeking out new ideas about the supernatural and that is why I love this book. For anyone who is curious about the unexplainable, God Reconsidered is a gold mine. Loved it! Thanks Scott!

A thought-provoking, honest critique of both traditional religions and the new breed of militant atheists. I learned the most from his summary of evidence for the supernatural. He debunks the scientific "debunkers" who don't want us to know that: double-blind experiments show measurable telepathy does take place; prominent scientists, after examining a wide array of evidence carefully, now believe that UFOs cannot be accounted for with mundane explanations; some NDEs cannot possibly be written off as mere hallucinations; and a common sense approach to reports of ghosts shows some cases cannot be dismissed as nonsense.After establishing a supernatural foundation for spiritual belief, he examines the religious explanations as to why there is so much suffering and evil in this world and finds their explanations wanting. In the end he suggests an alternative path of spirituality that squares up with the brute facts of life yet provides hope for what lies beyond this world.

It is refreshing to know that there are still capable thinking minds walking among mankind amid a world of trash, garbage, and confusion produced by the likes of Hollywood and entertainment moguls. Scott Smith has the quality of a mind worth of exalted praise deserving only to few among literary geniuses.

An in-depth look at religion and atheism. Smith cites many examples and explores numerous popular arguments on both sides of the religion vs. atheism debate. He focuses on three issues in developing his analysis: extra sensory perception, UFOs, and the assumption that there is no possible credible evidence of an afterlife. Fascinating to read.

Finally, a book that puts our thinking about God into a modern perspective. Love the way Scott puts the debunkers in their proper place, which is clearing the field for lucid thinking on the subject. Scott started out as skeptical, but discovered along the way that things aren't as the Painstream culture presents them . . .Takes the mote from our eyes and the beam from the Dawkins and Randis of the world!A must read for those who want to liberate themselves from the bonds of mental slavery to discover themselves and their true relationship to God.

Scott Smith doesn't just reconsider God. He reconsiders most of our presumptive beliefs about religion, the supernatural and even ESP. Using an evidence based approach that even Occam would love, he gets us thinking about everything in a new way. Great book!

Not sure if I'm the ideal demographic here, but I enjoyed sinking into it and taking the journey. Mr. Smith has written a book that' scan easy read with layers your can delve into. To be fair, I was raised Catholic and God Reconsidered lays out an overview of a variety of religious beliefs with ways to make sense of daily existence. It's valuable to evaluative my and your place in our Universe. Mr Smith has a fresh POV and I really applaud his intellectual honesty in this journey of belief systems and this result in book!

Scott Smith is an amazing writer who understands suffering much deeper than most writers I have ever read from! It is true that our world is plagued with suffering and Scott really breaks down our questions and presents a great alternative outlook. He opens our mind to vast possibilities from the normal atheistic view or religious view. At the end of the page, I was in awe because I left with an urge to search for more wisdom. I look forward to his other books in the future.

This book is not for a casual reader. It is, instead, a compendium of primary source information for those curious about the calendar year in Britain. It's fascinating scholarship and absolutely authoratative in its research, but not for "just reading"! At some points, the paragraphs are so thick with citations and details that my eyes began to gloss. In general, though, the prose remains readable, even when detailing minutia.I do want to address one criticism from an earlier reviewer, who said this about the book:"Hutton debunks everything he presents; after a while it kind of got on my nerves. Virtually every description and explanation is followed by some sort of 'but this probably didn't happen' or 'this probably wasn't really the way it was' disclaimer. fter reading several chapters, my attitude morphed into 'why are you wasting my time telling me about stuff that didn't happen? Can't you tell me about anything that probably DID happen?'"I'm not sure if this reviewer and I were reading the same book. Yes, Hutton debunks many myths surrounding these customs, but to say that he provides no information on what DID happen, or how it happened, is bunk. The book is thick with information, a real brick of scholarship. There are ten chapters alone on the evidence of various Christmas and New years traditions!Those with a serious interest in the development of many Western calendar customs in Britain (many of which are also the ultimate root of our American traditions) should definitely add this boo to their collections.

The most exciting insight I received from this book is just how quickly traditions change from generation to generation. This insight has been helpful to me in reading primary documents in other areas of research.I am a Neopagan, and I'm always interested to know where the sources of commonly held beliefs really lie. What I find is that a large percentage of the practices and meanings associated with the Neopagan holiday cycle are Medieval in origin, or later, and changed rapidly thenceforward.I'm okay with this knowledge. Wicca, my religion, definitely evolved in an Abrahamic environment and is compatible with Medieval material. I can understand why some modern Pagans would be frustrated to learn how little can really be discerned about their parent cultures, though.The most useful element to this work is the fact that Hutton details the source material available to readers, AND provides his assessment of their reliability. He gives good reasons for these assessments. The reader isn't obligated to accept his line of reasoning, and the great thing is that one can go back and read those other sources and get a more detailed picture.I think the Pagan community needs to remember that secondary and tertiary sources are not acceptable as "proof" of anything. Secondary source material is helpful to suggest lines of interpretation. Tertiary source material, like histories written for general readership, can only summarize the opinions of scholars and select from among them the ones that seem most reasonable to the author at the time. In other words, just because half a dozen tertiary sources agree on an interpretation does not make that opinion more believable. It only makes it more popular.

I love this book, and I would highly recommend it as one of the best available on this topic. However, I did recently discover an error in the chapter on the origins of Christmas, which I hope Hutton will correct in any future revised edition. Hutton cites the "Scriptor Syrus," supposedly writing in the late 4th century CE, as evidence that the Christians consciously imitated the pagans. However, the "Scriptor Syrus," which just means "the Syrian scribe" was actually writing in the 12th, not the 4th, century CE, thus way too late to count as a contemporary witness. The famous passage quoted by Hutton, which has been used again and again by those wanting to prove a pagan origin for Christmas, was just a note in the margins of a copy made by the unknown "Syrian scribe" of a work by the 12th century bishop Jacob Bar-Salibi. Here is the link to a page explaining this further with an image of the original: [...] - if Amazon deletes the link, then just search for the title of the article "The Syrus Code: Deciphering the Origins of Christmas, or Not." Even without this particular piece of evidence, though, it still looks obvious to any unbiased observer that the early Christians in Rome picked the 25th of December as the Birthday of Christ in conscious or unconscious imitation of the birthday of the Sun God - see Toward the Origins of Christmas [Liturgia Condenda 5] for a detailed history of the two main competing theories, the "History of Religions Theory" (that it came from the pagans), and the "Calculation Theory" (that it predates the feast of Sol Invictus, and was arrived at by counting nine months forward from the date of Jesus' assumed date of conception).

This is really dry, dense and hard to get through. It contains some interesting information, but wading through it is just too much of a slog. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're really studying the subject.

Sooo much info here! Not an easy read. Nevertheless, informative and welcoming if read in small tasteful increments. A must have book for all those hungry to know the true history of Americanized pagan festivals.

Hutton is both rich with professional detail and yet easily reachable by the lay person. The book is a compendium and therefore it is full of details and alternative interpretations - but this is as designed. I bought it for historical research - not entertainment. I have never known Hutton to disappoint and he certainly did not with this book. Exactly what I have been searching for.

Excellent book about Celtic holidays and their history.

Professor Hutton is a well-spring of information about pagan history. I don't think there is anything he doesn't know! If you really want to learn more about how certain practices came about, you definitely need this book. He's also an excellent speaker!
