The final spread features Bear asleep while a bright, happy moon (wearing undies, of course) gazes down upon him. Children will fall asleep with smiles on their faces from this silly bedtime story. Reading book reviews when I ran across this title. Harriet Ziefert alone grabs my attention as I'm a children's librarian. My grandson was going on a special camping trip with his parents (and not his little sister), and I had to get this to him before he went camping -- I imagine he watched for animals in underwear in the woods he hiked that weekend. Spot-on text; padded underwear on the book cover; appealing illustrations and story. A 5-star triple-threat book for preschoolers. The book binding could be better for library use, but I will take my chances and let the book circulate as long as it lasts. Some stories are worth that effort!

One of the very first books my son really loved was "Goodnight Moon", so this book was a perfect find when we started potty training him. He will sit down and "read" the book to us (we've read it so much he's memorized most of it), and we'll sometimes catch him saying, "OUCH! Bug in the eye!" If your family enjoyed "Goodnight Moon", you'll love this one!

My 3 year old really liked this book. We read this for a good 6 months. Liked the pictures, the text was fun, and liked that they're talking about underwear since we were also going through potty training. We learned to say goodnight to his underwear each evening :).

My son LOVES this book. I have read it so many times, I think I have it memorized. It's cute and silly.

My daughter loves these books! We use these to help her learn to read.

It makes many useful procedural points, but its consistent use of “progressive” and “politically correct” examples will put off those few students who have not succumbed to the political propaganda of the curriculum and faculty in contemporary American education. Authors who have recommend Noam Chomsky as a reliable author in previous editions have run off the tracks intellectually. If assigned to read this, focus on their procedural recommendations for speech making. Consult other books on how to silence those who are disruptive and don’t truly believe in intellectual freedom and debate. Such speeches can sometimes be found on YouTube, although this internet company has become increasingly hostile and censorial when it comes to those who don’t share the left-wing views of those who predominate in Silicon Valley. I love the fact that this book comes with a forewarning instead of a foreword. That got me hooked. I was raised by a very strict Catholic family, lived across the street from the church, and was always afraid of God when I was young. I saw him as being the big scorekeeper in the sky who was tracking all my sins in thought, word and deed....Really? Even thought? While I still believe in God and practice my faith, I have always considered myself a fringe dweller and love seeking out new ideas about the supernatural and that is why I love this book. For anyone who is curious about the unexplainable, God Reconsidered is a gold mine. Loved it! Thanks Scott!

A thought-provoking, honest critique of both traditional religions and the new breed of militant atheists. I learned the most from his summary of evidence for the supernatural. He debunks the scientific "debunkers" who don't want us to know that: double-blind experiments show measurable telepathy does take place; prominent scientists, after examining a wide array of evidence carefully, now believe that UFOs cannot be accounted for with mundane explanations; some NDEs cannot possibly be written off as mere hallucinations; and a common sense approach to reports of ghosts shows some cases cannot be dismissed as nonsense.After establishing a supernatural foundation for spiritual belief, he examines the religious explanations as to why there is so much suffering and evil in this world and finds their explanations wanting. In the end he suggests an alternative path of spirituality that squares up with the brute facts of life yet provides hope for what lies beyond this world.

It is refreshing to know that there are still capable thinking minds walking among mankind amid a world of trash, garbage, and confusion produced by the likes of Hollywood and entertainment moguls. This book is not for a casual reader. It is, instead, a compendium of primary source information for those curious about the calendar year in Britain. It's fascinating scholarship and absolutely authoratative in its research, but not for "just reading"! At some points, the paragraphs are so thick with citations and details that my eyes began to gloss. In general, though, the prose remains readable, even when detailing minutia.I do want to address one criticism from an earlier reviewer, who said this about the book:"Hutton debunks everything he presents; after a while it kind of got on my nerves. Virtually every description and explanation is followed by some sort of 'but this probably didn't happen' or 'this probably wasn't really the way it was' disclaimer. fter reading several chapters, my attitude morphed into 'why are you wasting my time telling me about stuff that didn't happen? Can't you tell me about anything that probably DID happen?'"I'm not sure if this reviewer and I were reading the same book. Yes, Hutton debunks many myths surrounding these customs, but to say that he provides no information on what DID happen, or how it happened, is bunk. The book is thick with information, a real brick of scholarship. There are ten chapters alone on the evidence of various Christmas and New years traditions!Those with a serious interest in the development of many Western calendar customs in Britain (many of which are also the ultimate root of our American traditions) should definitely add this boo to their collections.

The most exciting insight I received from this book is just how quickly traditions change from generation to generation. This insight has been helpful to me in reading primary documents in other areas of research.I am a Neopagan, and I'm always interested to know where the sources of commonly held beliefs really lie. What I find is that a large percentage of the practices and meanings associated with the Neopagan holiday cycle are Medieval in origin, or later, and changed rapidly thenceforward.I'm okay with this knowledge. Wicca, my religion, definitely evolved in an Abrahamic environment and is compatible with Medieval material. I can understand why some modern Pagans would be frustrated to learn how little can really be discerned about their parent cultures, though.The most useful element to this work is the fact that Hutton details the source material available to readers, AND provides his assessment of their reliability. He gives good reasons for these assessments. The reader isn't obligated to accept his line of reasoning, and the great thing is that one can go back and read those other sources and get a more detailed picture.I think the Pagan community needs to remember that secondary and tertiary sources are not acceptable as "proof" of anything. Secondary source material is helpful to suggest lines of interpretation. Tertiary source material, like histories written for general readership, can only summarize the opinions of scholars and select from among them the ones that seem most reasonable to the author at the time. In other words, just because half a dozen tertiary sources agree on an interpretation does not make that opinion more believable. It only makes it more popular.

I love this book, and I would highly recommend it as one of the best available on this topic. However, I did recently discover an error in the chapter on the origins of Christmas, which I hope Hutton will correct in any future revised edition. Hutton cites the "Scriptor Syrus," supposedly writing in the late 4th century CE, as evidence that the Christians consciously imitated the pagans. However, the "Scriptor Syrus," which just means "the Syrian scribe" was actually writing in the 12th, not the 4th, century CE, thus way too late to count as a contemporary witness. The famous passage quoted by Hutton, which has been used again and again by those wanting to prove a pagan origin for Christmas, was just a note in the margins of a copy made by the unknown "Syrian scribe" of a work by the 12th century bishop Jacob Bar-Salibi. Even without this particular piece of evidence, though, it still looks obvious to any unbiased observer that the early Christians in Rome picked the 25th of December as the Birthday of Christ in conscious or unconscious imitation of the birthday of the Sun God - see Toward the Origins of Christmas [Liturgia Condenda 5] for a detailed history of the two main competing theories, the "History of Religions Theory" (that it came from the pagans), and the "Calculation Theory" (that it predates the feast of Sol Invictus, and was arrived at by counting nine months forward from the date of Jesus' assumed date of conception).

This is really dry, dense and hard to get through. It contains some interesting information, but wading through it is just too much of a slog. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're really studying the subject.

Sooo much info here! Not an easy read. Nevertheless, informative and welcoming if read in small tasteful increments. A must have book for all those hungry to know the true history of Americanized pagan festivals.

Hutton is both rich with professional detail and yet easily reachable by the lay person. The book is a compendium and therefore it is full of details and alternative interpretations - but this is as designed. I bought it for historical research - not entertainment. I have never known Hutton to disappoint and he certainly did not with this book. Exactly what I have been searching for.

I guess I'm the sucker born this minute. Don't pay this much for eight pages. I had to take a closer look upon delivery to see if there were any pages between the covers.

My son loves this and has had a lot of fun with it. He is really into trains, so it was perfect for him. We like the detail of the text and the stickers are a fun thing for an activity.

Perfect for kids who love trains and can't get enough of them! The stickers are great quality and the pictures are exactly what you'll expect from DK company. Kids love the 'cut right out of a picture' stickers and the countless amount of time to play with them. I have always loved DK because I grew up with this company and DK never fails to amaze me with the incredible picture quality and entertainment they offer for kids this generation! This makes a great gift idea!

This book is the best for a toddler who loves trains. The pictures are large with enough detail to keep their attention.

The stickers are thick and high quality. My 2 year old can peel them off himself and he’s thrilled. For older kids, it’s fun to match the stickers with where they go in the book while learning about trains. Perfect for train-obsessed kids! Fully recommend!

These books are amazing! My 2 3/4 year old son loves doing them with us. We do them as part of our bedtime routine. He loves all vehicles - we have already completed the Truck book and he loves the Train book just as much. It's fun for my husband and I too - we are all learning about the different vehicles. The outline of the shapes help our son too! He is getting better with each sticker at being able to line up the sticker and cover the highlighted shape.

It was a nice book and given as a gift. Kept the three year old somewhat interested...

Awesome manga, awesome concept, moves a bit fast story wise.. didn't expect village building-so that was a pleasant surprise!The illustrations are well done. Characters are likeable. The mood tends to swing from dark to light a lot! The main character has the abilityas a slime to transform into whatever it eats.. for now. And he gains the ability to turn into something interesting and then laments the lack offunctional organs. It was dark yet funny.The only thing that sucks about this manga, is its English/united states release schedule.. the English version is probably4 volumes or 5 volumes behind what's been released in Japan if not more.So I really wish the translation to English, OFFICIAL Translation, were much faster. I wanted to buy ALL the volumes that had been released to date, but unfortunately they won't be out for months. Which is ridiculously horrible. Thankfully fans have picked up the slack of the licensee for the US release.I'll buy the future releases, when they finally do come out in English. Probably be an old man by the time the full digital English set comes out in the US with the way the release schedule is looking.P.S. IF your looking for another manga worth reading in this same genre.. check outKumo desu ga, nani ka? Its this manga about a girl in a Japanese classroom that is reborn into another world as a spider, or a normal spider in a Japanese classroom born into another world as a-bigger spider.. . or something. I don't know exactly. But really interesting stuff!

To put it simply, it is one of my favorite stories ever. I genuinely just love the plot and main character as a whole, and the way it is portrayed in all its formats so far.Tons of comedy, tons of fun scenarios, fun interactions, and a main character that is just a thrill to watch do his thing.The main just has a fun perspective on everything, and he just feels right in every way like a real guy instead of just a walking stereotype. I am not the best at describing it, but it just seems portrayed perfectly to me.

This is written after reading the seven first books. I bought them all at once : a regrettable mistake.I thought the story of the first book was unusual, and for a while it was kind of funny. The horrible fate of a pitiful guy « demoted » to being a slime, albeit with some bonuses and ridiculous encounters may have been interesting. It was certainly unexpected.With each book, I got an increasingly annoying feeling that there was nothing else to see.Each new « adventure » follows the same pattern and has about the same insight as a bright kid making up his own story would. The characters have no depths, they are simply the usual caricatures one has seen everywhere else.The occasional good bits are lost in a sea of mediocrity.With the sixth book, yet another new powerful « friend », and then another. And their behaviour and motivations are as bland as what I would expect of Care Bears; as boring too.In the seventh book, more emptiness, more of « everybody is nice » creepiness , and more of that « succeed without any kind of hardship » vibe.Where is the unexpected, the adversity, the challenge, the growth?Following the trend I predict in a few books the main character will meet with the ultra mega god of the universe. Said god will act childish and have most typical « moe » features. He will test the slime and then join him, be friend and make him god of the gods of the universes. (Yay?)Bad writing is easy.Disappointing.

This story starts off with an interesting premise, the MC is reincarnated as a slime monster, but proceeds to immediately gift the MC with god-like abilities, thus destroying any possible story arc to come. When your protagonist has abilities far beyond their supposed level, it's impossible to build believable conflict and struggle around them.Fantasy, like Science Fiction, depends upon the reader being able to suspend their disbelief, and this story completely fails to deliver on that premise.

This series is the best hands down. I received my English copy of the series today but I have had the benefit of reading this series in Japanese. If you want to know the series in English and Japanese are word for word in terms of great story flow, action and always cheering for our MC the slime. You will enjoy this series if you want to read a series that gives you a journey and you want to watch a hero grow, you will like it. This story will grab you page 1 and you will struggle to wait for the next volume that is how good it is.

Bring this book with you to the Angkor temples. It has complete maps of all the temples with descriptions of how to find some of the hidden reliefs and sculptures in the temples. It also has suggested itineraries and lets you know the best time to visit each site for photography.There are two authors of the book: Freeman is the photographer, and several of his stunning photos are on each page. I would be lucky if any one of my vacation pictures from Angkor come out as good as his. Claude Jacques is the historian, who wrote the background information. This part leaves a little to be desired - I recommend Michael Coe's book if you want historical background. Jacques is recognized as a thought leader on Khmer history, but his writing in English is not very informative. His introductory chapters did not give me any real understanding of the Khmer temple-builders. And some of the descriptions of the reliefs will state things like "on the south wall a warrior is riding an elephant." Well duh, I can see that. However, some of the descriptions are very good. They will describe the story from the Hindu Veda that the relief is depicting, like the story of the monkey army in the Ramayana seen on many temples.Outside any of the Angkor temples, you will find hustling Cambodian kids selling pirated versions of this book for under two dollars. The pirated version is compact and lightweight, but you would be missing out on Freeman's amazing color photographs.If you are lucky enough to visit Angkor, here are my suggestions:1. Get a hotel or guesthouse in Siem Reap with AC and a pool. On your first day there, find a driver you trust that you will hire for the rest of your trip (twenty bucks a day is reasonable for a tuk-tuk, more for a car).2. Wake up 4:30am every day and have your driver take you to a temple for sunrise (when the light is best for photography and temperature is reasonable).3. Have your driver take you back to the hotel for a swim and a nap (so you will not be out at the hottest part of the day when the big tour groups come through the temples).4. Have your driver take you to another temple for sunset.5. Don't miss the Bayon or Ta Prohm temples, or the Kampong Phluk floating village.

Excellent overview of the Angkor temples. I purchased the book by Dawn Rooney as well, but Freeman's book is more 'portable' and I plan to take it with me on my travels in Cambodia.

This is a great guide to get around all of the Angkor temple complexes. It contains fantastic maps, detailed historical information and even suggested itineraries of the sites and of the landmarks at each site, which was a probably the most helpful thing in the book for me. It seriously contained everything I needed to know for my husband and I to hit the ruins solo. And since the book contains some pictures of the ruins, you can use that to help prioritize which sites you want to see. Helpful hint- whichever site(s) you want to see the most, go to that one earliest, like 6 am, before the crowds come in around 9 or 10 am. Good Luck!

This is a great book to take along on your trip to Angkor. There aren't many signs on-site and unless you are paying for a guide, you may miss the contextual history and architectural significance that will make the trip more interesting.Pro-tip: many locals sell this book at Angkor for a few bucks if you want to wait until you get there. I was offered the book multiple times while I was at the archaeological park.

Marjorie Martinelli is coauthor - with Kristine Mraz - of Smarter Charts and the new Smarter Charts for Math, Science, and Social Studies. Got these in 2017 for our 5 and 8 year old kiddos (now 6 & 9). We bring these with us often for long car rides or for places where we need a back-up activity for the kids. These are great and have been standing the test of time.Would highly recommend.

Part of my child's homework is spending time understanding math facts. He was getting bored with the same addition and subtraction problems so we tried this. Makes them think and is a very useful tool at teaching all kinds of math facts. I hope they come out with many more of these and for different subjects.

How many 1st graders do you know that know how to divied and how to do factions?!?! Because I dont know any!! Not happy. This wont be usable till the end of 2nd grade going on 3rd grade.. And by then they wont want to use it because it says its for 1st graders.

My 6 year old and I have so much fun with these brain quest cards! They are so portable! We do them when we are waiting in car pool in the morning - waiting in a dr. office - really anywhere there is waiting :) or you can think of it this way - anywhere they are pulling out their DSI's - we have a rule of no "gaming" during the school week - so when I need them to do something else- here is that something else - there is also general knowledge cards - and reading - we do them all - and it is fun fun fun - makes them see the instant gratification in getting something right - not too hard either - but not so easy that its boring - a great product all around!!

my kids love it. they think it's a game and we do it every night. little do they know they are learning at the same time. highly recommend.

Lots of good questions that challenge the child. Definitely helps you know where your child needs improvement and what concepts you can help him or her focus on!

I am so glad I decided to get the Brain Quest Math. My daughter thinks of using this as more of a game instead of work so it is fun and motivating.

This is really fun to take on trips and to get your little one's mind working. It's great because kids think it's a game hen they are actually learning.

This is a very nice, simple book containing detailed information and a map of all the hikes. It's small and light enough to put in your pocket and hike with it; and I'm not one who likes to carry much on a hike. I bought two more as gifts. These are all pretty easy hikes, but fun and with diverse habitats and wildlife to enjoy.

Do not buy this book. It has out of date trails that are overgrown and you will be either lost or behind a trailer park in BFE.

We keep this handy book around when we have a day off. It's nice to see what's in the area without doing too much research online.

I will be visiting and wanted to get a book or two that would have easy hikes and walks. Nice book with maps and trails descriptions.

very complete & detailed, with a wide range of hiking itineraries, used it extensively to select & set up hikes on recent Florida vist

The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is that it omits beach walks and bay-front park walks, which are the best of Tampa Bay area walking.This book is small and light enough to take along on your hike - very handy.The organization is excellent - distance, hiking time, and difficulty are always given, along with notes about such things as trail surface, fees, maps, whether dogs are allowed, etc.The locator map and individual trail maps are excellent. Driving directions include the trail head GPS coordinates - VERY handy for remote locations where a street address does not exist or is not marked. And you can plug their exact GPS coordinate syntax into Google Maps and see not only a map, but a satellite view of the trail head.After years of experience with various hiking books with faults such as the lack of a locator map, obscure directions, and lack of detail about difficulty or trail surface, I am very impressed with the small, handy volume.
